About the Artist

June Djiagween

June Djiagween

June Djiagween is a proud Indigenous artist from the Yawuru, Yindjibarndi, and Martu nations. Born in Broome and raised in the vast landscapes of the Pilbara and Kimberley, June grew up immersed in the stories, traditions, and knowledge of her elders. Her deep connection to Country, shaped by fishing, hunting, and camping, is woven into every piece of art she creates.

For June, her greatest achievement in life is her daughter, Sarafina Elliott. Second to that is her lifelong passion for art. Through rich, earthy tones and intricate storytelling, June brings Dreamtime stories and cultural narratives to life on canvas, honoring her heritage with every brushstroke.

Beyond her artistic talents, June is a woman of many accomplishments. She has owned small businesses, completed a boilermaker course—becoming the first Aboriginal female boilermaker—and traveled the world, embracing diverse cultures and experiences. These journeys have further shaped her perspective, enriching both her art and her understanding of the world.

Inspiration & Artistic Vision
June’s art is deeply inspired by her cultural background and the Dreamtime stories passed down through generations. Each piece is a tribute to her people’s traditions, land, and spirituality.

With a keen eye for detail and a strong connection to the colours of the earth, June takes great pride in her work. She is passionate, meticulous, and deeply committed to ensuring each painting reflects the beauty, depth, and history of her Indigenous heritage.

Through her art, June Djiagween invites others to experience the richness of her culture, share in the wisdom of her ancestors, and see the land through the eyes of its First Peoples.
