Commissioned by Downer EDI Works, the Great Northern Highway Overlay Project involved resurfacing 19.7 km of existing pavement to enhance durability and road safety. Given the highway’s importance as a major transport route, the works were carefully planned to maintain traffic flow while ensuring high-quality construction.
Scope of Works
As a subcontractor to Downer EDI, Roadline was responsible for:
- Overlaying 19.7 km of pavement with 100mm of roadbase, stabilised using a CAT RM300 Stabiliser
- Mixing the stabilised base to a depth of 200mm with 2.0% LH cement
- Compacting and trimming the road surface using GPS-controlled graders
- Traffic management to minimise disruption and ensure road user safety
Note: The final seal was completed by others.
Outcome
The project was successfully completed within 4 months, meeting the client’s expectations with:
- Zero safety incidents
- Minimal impact on highway traffic
- A high-quality road surface, built for long-term durability
